At the start there was some discussion about a missed memo to wear pink/purple .... it was pure coincidence! Despite some non conformity 10 of us set off to enjoy the autumn colours and sunshine of a beautiful day. The inner child escaped a bit after lunch and we all kicked up crunchy leaves on the final walk through The Partington estate.
Thanks everyone for a lovely day. - Caroline A happy band of six ladies accompanied Joy for her annual pilgrimage to Digley Reservoir near Holmfirth. Joy had ordered sunshine and clear blue skies for her 6 mile walk and that’s what we got! With fabulous views of the beautiful Yorkshire landscape “that made your heart sing” we walked along stone-walled lanes, fields of heather, rivers surrounded by gritstone rocks and rugged moorland paths at a good pace for conversation and laughter with the occasional “water” stop along the way. Lunch at the pretty Blackpool Bridge (legend has it that the name comes from the black pools below the bridge that local people used to swim in). Despite lots of pulling and tugging we abandoned trying to open a particularly truculent farm gate; we not so nimbly vaulted over it! Yet a further challenge to overcome was an incredibly high rise stile which we did of course with aplomb! Not!
Nearing the end of the walk we headed into Holme village and stopped at the Fleece Inn for a welcome drink, tea and cake, and some of us couldn’t resist the very generous sized ice creams topping up our depleted blood sugar levels. The pilgrimage was finally brought to a close with a quick visit into the “Pie shop” next door to buy souvenirs to be enjoyed back home before crossing more fields back to the car park. A wonderful day, thank you Joy and we look forward to walking with you next year! - Karen |
