A happy band ignored the forecast to enjoy a lovely walk into Brockadale woods and returned to the hospitality of The Shoulder of Mutton before the rain started and the real storms began. Thank you all for your wonderful company and fun. - Joan
Cannon Hall walk with plenty of variety. Lovely autumn colours throughout the parkland and gardens. A browse around the farm shop with very tempting food on sale!
Finished off in the garden centre outdoor terrace, complete with patio heater. Very enjoyable day with great company. - Stephanie At the start there was some discussion about a missed memo to wear pink/purple .... it was pure coincidence! Despite some non conformity 10 of us set off to enjoy the autumn colours and sunshine of a beautiful day. The inner child escaped a bit after lunch and we all kicked up crunchy leaves on the final walk through The Partington estate.
Thanks everyone for a lovely day. - Caroline A happy band of six ladies accompanied Joy for her annual pilgrimage to Digley Reservoir near Holmfirth. Joy had ordered sunshine and clear blue skies for her 6 mile walk and that’s what we got! With fabulous views of the beautiful Yorkshire landscape “that made your heart sing” we walked along stone-walled lanes, fields of heather, rivers surrounded by gritstone rocks and rugged moorland paths at a good pace for conversation and laughter with the occasional “water” stop along the way. Lunch at the pretty Blackpool Bridge (legend has it that the name comes from the black pools below the bridge that local people used to swim in). Despite lots of pulling and tugging we abandoned trying to open a particularly truculent farm gate; we not so nimbly vaulted over it! Yet a further challenge to overcome was an incredibly high rise stile which we did of course with aplomb! Not!
Nearing the end of the walk we headed into Holme village and stopped at the Fleece Inn for a welcome drink, tea and cake, and some of us couldn’t resist the very generous sized ice creams topping up our depleted blood sugar levels. The pilgrimage was finally brought to a close with a quick visit into the “Pie shop” next door to buy souvenirs to be enjoyed back home before crossing more fields back to the car park. A wonderful day, thank you Joy and we look forward to walking with you next year! - Karen Eleven ladies enjoyed a lovely, chilled out walk from High Ackworth taking in part of the old Roman road from London to York. Lunch in the churchyard at East Hardwick followed by a welcome beverage at the Garden Centre. A super day out and many thanks to Becky for co-piloting. - Diane H.
Today's walk was amazingly dry despite meeting and driving to the starting point - Penistone in the rain. 1 member and my son's mother-in-law - Judith were treated to a lovely walk around half of Penistone Boundary walk.
Views were non-existent to start with, lunch spot was more crowded than Blackpool, but no Swifty bonuses. Finished off at Cubley Hall with a drink - only good manners after using their carpark. Absolutely no idea how many styles apart from there were quite a lot. So grateful to the four who joined Anne and myself today.Fabulous company and weather. A few climbs and the odd obstacle but apart from misplacing the carpark at the end I think a good time was had by all.Gwenda enjoyed her second tub of ice-cream as the first ended up on the floor much to a dog's delight 🙈😅 The Rivelin Chair Sculpture installed in 2011 on an island of the New Dam Weir was designed and produced by local artist Jason Thomson.Cast iron but crafted to appear like coppice wood.Too busy today but Anne and I enjoyed it on the reccy.
