12 of us enjoyed Lise's festive walk from 'doggers lane' We all managed to fit on the benches in a circle round the trees in (something wood???) and were treated to after eight minutes, eclair toffees and mince pies.
We were blessed with the most perfect weather for our Mince Pie walk. Gorgeous sunshine and firm underfoot. Leaving Notton along the old railway line we headed towards Woolley taking a coffee break beside the swimming pool in Seckar Woods. And NO there were no ‘Dippers’ that day! Lunch was taken in the grounds of Woolley Church where a flushing toilet gained us some bonus points-hopefully!! It was nice to have Darrel join us here to walk the final leg back to Notton and take photos of us enjoying our break. On returning to the village hall we found that Pat, Sue, Anne , Lise, Rachel, Caroline &Gillian (hope I haven’t missed anyone out!) had set everything out ready for our delicious mince pies & cuppa. Then our day was rounded off with hilarious entertainment from our wonderful resident thespians Pat, Bronwyn & Jennifer. Thank you all for supporting & helping to make it a wonderful day with wonderful friends. I have also donated the remaining £31 from your contributions to the Air Ambulance. Merry Christmas from the Notton Girls After far too long away from WWWN because of Achilles surgery I was able to join the “Notton Mince Pie” walk half way round at the Churchyard in Woolley on a cold but absolutely beautiful sunny day. My bit of walk was just about 3 miles and meandered through the fields from Woolley, through Notton Woods and Applehaigh Clough towards the centre of Notton and back into the Village Hall for mince pies and festivities, and wonderful entertainment from our regular comedians!
The welcome I received was really heart-warming. I managed to catch up with a few folk in the churchyard before we set off, some as we walked to the Village Hall in Notton, and some as we munched a mince pie or two. Thank you to those of you who visited me when I was immobilised and for all your kindnesses. What a wonderful bunch of ladies you are! Here’s wishing you all the best for Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2023, and I look forward to walking with you again soon (just short and flat walks for now) - Darrel Our two great organisers and some other members admiring the graffiti on our pre Christmas lunch walk. Thanks to Stephanie and Ann for organising our Christmas Lunch at The Shepherds Arms, we had a great time.
25 brave women turned up for the 2 Dianes’ inaugural walk. Did they actually know that neither Diane has a sense of direction? No matter, all was well, The sun shone, the walk was calm and flat, all the wrong turns had been made on the recce, so the actual walk was without incident. The so-called ‘Yellow Brick Road’ led us from the scenic Welbeck Tip all the way back to the Aire & Calder Navigation, and even yielded a cosy lunch stopping place that had not been noticed on the recce.
Rumour has it that these two clueless navigators actually enjoyed leading the walk and may even be prepared to offer another one in future!! Diane C |
