Thursday 27th June, Elsecar

30/6/2019

Jean led a keen group of 19 walkers on a 6.5 mile walk from Elsecar on Thursday.  Jennifer sent this walk report in, and a bunch of photographs to go with it.

"What a difference a day makes! (Cue for a song here!)  After all the rain earlier in the week the sun came out, and we had a lovely walk led by Jean.

One of the highlights of the walk was entering the village of Harley.  What a pretty, spotless place. The verges were covered with wild flowers, in fact there were flowers all over the village. As we passed a house on the way to our lunch spot on the cricket field, a very kind lady gave Jan a fork so that she could eat her salad lunch.  She also gave her all the village gossip!!

While having lunch a bench (which had seen better days) collapsed,  leaving 3 of our walking ladies on the floor.  What did they have for lunch!!!  No names, but they know who they are.  Luckily no one but the bench was hurt so it was laughter all round.

After a super walk we all had coffee and tea at the Heritage Centre in Elsecar.  A good day was had by all."

Sunday 24th June - Bolsterstone, the Canyards & Broomhead reservoir

25/6/2019

Alison led this walk 9.5 mile walk and Chris send a walk report and photos.  (Thank you as always Chris.)

She says they started with a "Spa" and quite a lot of "exfoliating" from the heather,  brambles, nettles for one or two who wore shorts.  Lovely walk with lovely views from all the hills.

Thursday 20th June - Burley in Wharfedale

25/6/2019

Jan led this walk from Burley in Wharfedale. I am gutted to have missed it because it looks like a cracking walk through meadows and moorland AND with cakes! I reckon it's one that Jan will lead again.  Here's her walk report ...

"19 of us enjoyed a walk in the footsteps of Giant Rombauld! We ate our lunch by Coldstones Beck where an 18th century hermit used to wash his socks, and we shared cake with free-ranging chickens! We were slightly disconcerted by two bulls but Pat kept them at bay while we passed within feet, assuring us they were too busy with their girlfriends to bother with us! Thank you to everyone who came and to whoever it was that arranged such glorious weather."

Going back to Judith's nature walk from Thursday 30th May

25/6/2019

I'm not sure how these photos weren't posted back at the beginning of June - but I've just found these so I'm adding them belatedly, and thanks for sending them in the first place Chris!

I'm also not sure how the last photo managed to get into a "Nature Walk" but there was some mention of "not giving the motorbike right of way as he shouldn't be there until we realised the police" which sounded interesting enough to post anyway!

Thursday 13th June - Emley, Emley Woodhouse, & Emley Park

15/6/2019

Bronners stoically led 18 committed walkers on this walk on Thursday.  While it was clearly very wet weather with some heavy rain which even blurred some of the photos Jennifer sent in, her walk report arrived and her literary prowess even managed to make me wish I'd been there!  Here goes;

"18 brave waders, I mean walkers !! turned up for Bronwyn's lovely walk round Emley & Emley Woodhouse. The rain was intermittent all day but didn't spoil our outing.

Emley mast was covered in mist, but always a friend in the distance. The fields of corn looked fabulous with all the rain drops, even though we practically all ended up with wet feet plodding through them.  Where was Katerina to count all the styles?

We finished the walk as usual with a nice coffee at Emley Farm Shop Cafe. Some even went home with a pie or two."

See what I mean?  As always, thanks for leading the walk Bronners (and again, sorry I missed it) and thanks for your words and photos Jennifer.  You're a bit of a whizz with that camera of yours!  The first few show smiley faces, the next the grey grey weather, and then ... well, see for yourself!

Message from Chris regarding MacMillan Coffee Morning on Friday 19th July

9/6/2019

I don't normally post calendar events for you all on the blog, partly because there are so many, partly because some events don't all apply to all of us, and also because I'd never be away from my laptop!

This one is a special event so I thought I'd make an exception.  Here to explain is a message from Chris S

"My 14th and last ever MacMillan Coffee Morning will be held on Friday 19th July at St Michael's Church Hall, East Ardsley, WF3 2LJ from 10am till 11.30am. With the same format as the previous 13 years, Coffee, Cakes and Chat, or Tea, cakes and chat. All welcome."

Thursday 6th June - Gawthorpe

7/6/2019

Pat C led this walk, and Jennifer sent me this write up together with photographic evidence.  Personally I'm intrigued by the "ish" bit!

"24 ish of us met in Gawthorpe, just a stones throw from where I live for a 6 mile walk. Pat took us on footpaths that I never knew existed on my own door step. Also she must have been saying her prayers last night because we had sunshine all day.  She did say her knees were sore so I'm sure that's what she meant!!!!

We had our lunch in the lovely garden of Pat's friend Jenny. Thank you Jenny for your hospitality.  As usual we ended the walk with a visit to the Shoulder of Mutton in Gawthorpe. A good day was had by all."

Thank you for the walk Pat, and Jennifer - beautiful photos. Some are surreal!  This just goes to show that even when you think you know an area well, a walk can still introduce you to new bits.

Tuesdsday 4th June - a wellbeing message

4/6/2019

I had an email from one of our members today.  She wanted to share a text she's received from a walker she knows.  It goes as follows;
"After a successful walking holiday in North Yorkshire several of our group found ticks embedded in their legs, and one of the guys is having hospital treatment due t  feeling unwell.  I know you are all experienced walkers but if walking in shorts make sure you have insecticide on your legs"
Thanks for sharing this Lynne.

Monday 3rd June - output from Judith's Tree walk

3/6/2019

I've just had this photo emailed to me.  It's a collage Pat H did with her findings from Judith's recent nature walk, and I thought it's so lovely I'd share it here!  Thanks Pat!

Sunday 2nd June - Updates from Notton!

2/6/2019

Well here I am again, back from holiday and aiming to catch up on a backlog of photos and walk reports from you all.  Thank you for your contributions.  I did my best to get them in the right order - but you'll have to use a bit of imagination!
