The heavy rain kept many at home today, but three stalwart ladies braved it all, for what was a very wet walk, shortened, by consensus, to 4 miles. Negotiating torrents of water flowing like rivers on some of the paths, we managed an interesting walk around Langsett Reservoir, finally bringing us, wet and bedraggled to the warm welcome at Bank View cafe. Toasted tea cakes and a warm drink did the trick! Thanks to Lesley for leading, it would have been so easy to have turned back home!
30 ladies turned out to walk with me and another celebration for my 60th birthday. The line stretched a fair way across the field at Kirkhamgate and along the fence on the 41 industrial estate for lunch. We saw some very cute little pigs along the way, which deserved the big 'aaah'. We all then enjoyed fabulous cakes, a cuppa and chat at Lindale church. Thanks to Anne, Denise, Hazel, Jennifer, Joan, Margaret, Pat C, Pat H and Keith for cakes and drinks and the many ladies that did a stint at the sink washing and drying up and in the church sorting out seating and tables. Pat C set up a donations box which you kindly contributed £80 to - which will be going to a Parkinsons charity. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. Caroline
Today's walk, beautifully lead by myself, (with the help of Barbara and Lise) was the choo choo signed walk around Skelmanthorpe, After a lovely meet and greet session with Ann Ward, we set off only to stop as someone's strava hadn't been set. Things have changed since the leaflet was written as the route was followed to a T but was only 9 miles in contrast to 10, what the leaflet said. We had a lovely early lunch with a view.
As with every WWWN walk there was lots of chatting laughter and running repairs on glasses. Hopefully we didn't put off our new walker Tracy. - Chris Some varied fungi under the trees where we stopped for lunch on today's walk from Rabbit Ings, Royston.
A lovely walk, thank you, Diane - Caroline |
