26th April - Emley and West Bretton Sculpture Park

26/4/2018

Pat S led a lovely circular walk today, starting at Emley and heading around West Bretton Sculpture Park and back.  The fields were muddy, the styles wobbly, and the weather windy and rainy, then sunny, then windy again -  so we had our work cut out.  No sitting on plastic bags on wet grass today either.  Our picnic lunch was very civilised using some picnic tables in Bretton.

After lunch, Pat C got into her stride with a herd of cows (as usual) and guided us all safely through those associated hazards - and managed to do it without losing her hat and gloves or her banana box!

Yes, it's April and yes, it was necessary to wear scarves, hats, gloves.  Come on Summer!  We're waiting for you!  After Sunday's forage across into coldest Lancashire, Chris S had even donned her vest again!

A great walk with lots of laughs!

Sunday 22nd April - Black Stone Edge, Littleborough

25/4/2018

Jayne emailed me this description and photograph after Diane's walk on Sunday ...

‘Never cast a clout till May is out’ and never was a truer word spoken on Black Stone Edge last Sunday. It started off a lovely sunny, warm morning in Wakefield but by the time we started walking around Hollingsworth Lake near Littleborough in Lancashire the heavens opened and we ate our lunch shivering and sheltering from the mist and wind as you can see!!
Hey ho we had a laugh and eventually the sun came out and we saw the promised splendid views. Thank you Diane for the experience ... I think ... "

They're all smiling so they look happy enough, but they crossed onto "the other side" so maybe they should've stayed in Yorkshire!  Comments?

It clearly wasn't a warm day, but it looks like they still had fun.

5th April - Denby Dale, Scissett and Skelmanthorpe

5/4/2018

So today Mother Nature showed us a promise of Spring days to come.  Spring only popped out for today; tomorrow we shall have rain and grey skies again, but today?  Today was a gloriously sunny and mild day and our walk leader Susan helped us all take advantage of it with a beautiful 6 mile walk around Denby Dale.

The rain we've had recently made for plenty of mud though, quite a lot of it which Susan fell into hands first.  She went down laughing and she got up laughing so no damage done,, though maybe Denise found it funnier than Susan!

Two of our sisters helping Susan clean up so she could continue leading the walk.

As if proof were needed?  Further evidence of how muddy it was.  Boots by Chris!

Oh, also from Chris, a corker of a shot of the beautiful clear blue sky.

Ray, on his driveway, kindly (bravely?) attempting to explain the history of how "Long Tongue Scrogg Lane" got its name to us.
