Thur 28th Oct- Shelley Welly - Extended Walk

30/10/2021

After sending in some photo’s, I was asked to follow them up with a report.
I double checked the programme as being the back marker I heard a few whispers about hills, and yes, the programme said several inclines and several stiles. Yes, definitely ticked both those boxes!!! (No angles had been given for the inclines). Also said beautiful view and that box again got a big tick. A lovely autumnal day, seeing Emley moor masts x 2 from every aspect.

A few of us learnt that the Shelly Welly Walk is signposted with the wellies upside down to create an arrow, so that you know you are going up the correct incline.

Fourteen of us started the walk, but one was abducted by a young man at a time that an abduction was welcomed (certainly no kicking and screaming was heard by any of us). So only thirteen returned. (Have to know how to count as a back marker).

Company as ever was brilliant, Thank you Lise for a great walk.

PS (several = more than two but not many, for those of you that were counting, me I was just happy to be out with you all). - Chris S

Thur 21st Oct - Kirk Smeaton (another blog)

30/10/2021

Heavy overnight rain did not deter the 20 intrepid walkers who enjoyed the blue sky and sunshine on our walk through Brockadale Woods and on to Wentbridge.
After lunch in the churchyard in we took up the challenge to make our return journey  on the south bank of the river where the footpath came perilously close to the swollen waters. The great spirit of adventure ,willingness to help each other and plenty of laughter ensured that we all returned safe and dry and in good spirits.

A welcome drink at The Shoulder of Mutton gave a chance to admire the scrap metal sculpture which was built as a commemorative thank you to the organisers of the weekly deliveries of fresh fruit and veg boxes to the local community during the Covid19 lockdown.
Thank you all for a great day. - Joan

Joan led 20 walkers today from the lovely village of Kirk Smeaton. The walk went through Brockles Wood where all the fairies live. 🧚‍♀️ now in high-rise blocks. Lol.

The sun came out to guide us on our way through delightful woods.  A bit of a muddy path by the river but we all survived.  A beer shandy at the end sat in the sunshine next to the Tree of Life sculpture, before we all set of home.

Another delightful day.  - Jennifer

Jean's walk from Langsett was fabulous. A bit different in that we started walking across the main road and up onto moorland and farm tracks. A really good turn out (26) with 4 new ladies. Really good weather and a perfect spot for lunch where we all had a 'proper' seat!
Thanks Jean and back markers Steph and Joan. - Caroline

Wed 6 Oct - Committee Meeting

9/10/2021

Joy of joys to actually meet face to face for our bi-monthly committee meeting, which was once again  held at East Ardsley Conservative Club.  Nineteen ladies attended, though you'd have a job to recognise Betty and Swifty - the camera lens just wasn't wide enough.  Thanks to "baby Swift" for acting photographer. - Lise

Ten ladies enjoyed a sunshine walk in the gardens, estate tracks and fields of Wortley Hall. We enjoyed lovely views and finished with coffee and packed lunches on the sunny terrace at the Hall, and lots of happy chatter.   Gillian
