Thursday 30th August - Stanley Ferry

30/8/2018

It's been a year of "big" birthday celebrations for me so I've missed quite a few walks as a result.  Well it seems I've missed yet another lovely one today.  Jules led a walk from Stanley Ferry and by all accounts it's been a cracker.  The photo below show folk and horses enjoying the day!  It's good to see we have some blue skies with us again too.

Chris says "it was a really nice lunch spot leaning against a fence - until some horses joined us trying to get our sarnies from behind"

And following Jule's lovely walk there was a stop at a pub at the end, before everyone headed home. Sounds perfect!

Sunday 5th August - Firbeck, Laughton en le Morthern and Roche Abbey

5/8/2018

I'm always pleased to receive photos or even just write-ups from walks so I can share these snippets with you.  There's been a vacuum of material since 21st July when I loaded some of my own pictures.  The calm was shattered today by Chris when she sent me a tsunami of photos from Pauline's walk around Firbeck, Laughten en le Morthern and Roche Abbey.  It was clearly a fabulous day.  Just look at the colour of that sky - not a cloud in sight!

I'm from Worksop so Roche Abbey is not far from my stomping ground.  I haven't been for years but seeing these gorgeous photos has made me put Roche Abbey back on my "must see" list again.

So here they are, today's photos, gratefully received and hopefully solidly appreciated ...

I'm told this is a Grade II listed Dove Cote

Spot the walkers on this next one.
Apparently the sun was in the wrong place!

There's an interesting story to this next one.  Apparently our band of merry women found a car key, so "Blue Peter" style fixed it onto a post using Jeanette's knicker elastic.  This has me worrying about how Jeannette managed the rest of the walk without her knicker elastic, but I've been assured that she carries an amazing bag of tricks and spare knicker elastic is part of her armoury!  Sounds like she's your "Go to" person in case of emergency!

And finally, here is Roche Abbey - wonderful!  I remember the setting for this place was really peaceful.  It might be too much to hope it's still as calm and quiet as 40 years ago!
