Thursday's walk lead by Jill started in Hebden Bridge and most of us went on the train which was a nice change. One or two very steep climbs but we were forewarned. Lovely views and it was nice to go somewhere different. | Heptonstall is always interesting and so was the tiny cafe back in Hebden Bridge where we all crammed at the end for hot drinks and cake! Thank you Jill we all enjoyed our day. |
A fairly local 7 miles on Sunday volunteered and lead by Margaret and weren't we blessed by the weather of wall to wall sunshine.. How I wished I had left one of my two vests at home or the double thickness fleece or even left off my lined trousers or maybe the thermal leggings! 'MAFTED' is the Yorkshire word for what I was at the top of the steady climbs through Whitley woods. Anyway it was a very pleasant spring like walk with new born lambs gambolling and birds singing under the blue skies. We lunched at Black Dick's Tower (see below) and ended up at the Hare and Hounds Inn where Maggie treated us all to a slap up roast dinner and a pint of the local ale.
No I'm lying ...........we all bought our own soft drink...............thanks for the walk anyway Margare.t. The Sunday before the Youth Hostel Weekend and 12 ladies joined Pauline for this walk through woods and fields around Newmillerdam and Wintersett. The day was lovely and bright and suprisingly dry underfoot and even though it is quite a 'local' walk we all enjoyed paths we hadn't been on before. As it was such a nice day the car park was heaving on our return but some retired to the pub and others enjoyed an ice cream and so a splendid end to a lovely walk. Thanks go to Pauline for leading the walk and I'm just sorry I forgot my camera to post a snapshot here.. See you all next weekend at the Ravenstor Youth Hostel for a selection of smashing walks in Derbyshire!
I joined the Thursday group for this lovely walk led by Jenny. The sun shone and the views were marvellous for 36 ladies from the group who met at the Shoulder of Mutton car park returning there around 2.30pm for refreshment from the bar served by the genial innkeeper who explained all about their recent re-furbishment. The photos below show us waiting for Pat and Chris to return after going back to look for mislaid items at the lunchstop! Little did they know they would walk an extra mile to everyone else that day! Thank you Jenny for leading.
