5 ladies joined me on my walk this Sunday, very mixed weather but good views and varied countryside. We had a long wait to lunch as I wanted to break after the steep climb up into Beaumont Park but it was worth it to sit on the park benches and look towards Castle Hill enjoying the views. So that explains the happy faces in the first photo as we all knew the climb was behind us and we were well past halfway! The second shows our reward as we stopped at Lockwood on the way home for a Dixon’s Milk ice with raspberry juice, which I’d been telling the girl’s were ‘World Famous’ round here!
I joined 26 other ladies on a Thursday walk for a change and it was 7.5 miles of an interesting mix of urban 'countryside'.
As you can see from the photo there were wild flowers in abundance on the Spen Vally Greenway - which as we started the walk circuiting a margerine factory - we hadn't expected to see.! The walk ended for some in the pub....(the usual ones) and well it was warm......I must mention one amusing lady who turned up in a very fetching flamboyant befeathered hat in a nod to it being Ladies Day at Ascot. I hadn't the heart to tell her it really clashed with the rest of her outfit and fortunately it went back in the boot. Thanks got to Judith and Fay who led the walk. So very quiet on this walk on Sunday. We met next to nobody for the whole 9 miles - did they know we were coming? Very pleasant through woods and greenery and few climbs- hurrah! Found this pleasant sheltered spot for lunch although Ann looks as though she found something unpleasant in her sandwiches. As you can see some of us were unleashing 'inner childhoods' on the swings - whilst I of course just looked on indulgently - my own gets a regular 'unleashing' after a couple of wee drams! Thank you LDD (long distance Dorothy)
