Thursday 29th November - Golden Acre Park

Yesterday I sat bundled up under a duvet with my box of tissues close to hand, looking through the window at the gail force winds and the rain.  I thought of the walk I was missing - and then at lunchtime (picnic time?!) the heaven's really opened and I could scarcely see the road from the lounge!  My heart went out to the hardy walkers who braved Jill's outing yesterday.

Today I received this missive from Elaine (thank you E) with photos to prove there was even some blue sky at some point.

"Jill led 11 brave souls on a lovely walk around Golden Acre Park. It turned out to be good for the diet because when we stopped for lunch the heavens opened & we’ve never eaten soggy sandwiches as quickly!! We moved on very swiftly with no time for biscuits!

As soon as we set off again the sun came out, as it does, and we continued the walk in very pleasant sunshine.  We all decided that we deserved a treat and so it was delicious cakes and scones all round in the cafe!!

A perfect end to an invigorating walk. Thank you Jill."

No surprise about the "We all decided that we deserved a treat" Elaine - that's my girl!

Thursday 22nd November - Penistone

Against all the odds Atsuko led 24 of us on this 7 mile walk around Penistone.  As we set off we had the usual discussions about when mist becomes fog - but the definitions made no difference, it was just plain wet.  We climbed a steep hill so I'm sure the views would have been fabulous had we been able to see them.  Visibility was so poor that you could scarcely see 5m in front of you at some points, which made map reading and landmark spotting a dark art!  Well done Atsuko - but will you please put this walk on again in the summer when we can see the views?

And here are a couple of photos I took as we set off from the car park at Cubley Hall.  What a lovely place!  The stained glass panel in the door looked fabulous from the inside ...

Sunday 18th November - Sowerby Bridge

Five ladies joined Jayne on her Sunday walk from Sowerby Bridge climbing up to Norland moor and completing a circuit where they enjoyed wonderful views all day.

The first photo is the group on Gallows Pole Hill, then pointing to the Trig point that was on offer that day for anyone who collects them (who could that be??)

Jayne says she couldn’t fail to include this one of the sisters as they looked so cute!  She says thanks for coming ladies, she enjoyed the day.

Some photos from Chris's Armistice day wall around Glossop avoiding the Black Stuff, walking the dark peat lands of Bleaklow. There were some stunning views. There was a long climb up to a wreckage site where they placed a cross from WWWN.  All 13 crew members lost their lives when a Canadian plane came down on 3rd November 1948 during bad weather.

Chris says it was a bit wet on the way up but it turned out nice by the time they got to the top.

The evidence!  They made it to the Trig.

Some photos of Leslie's walk around Langsett Reservoir have arrived with me.  It looks a bit damp and drizzly so I've included the obligatory coffee shop shot too.

Thursday 1st November - Temple Newsam

Judith's walk today - a predicted 8 miles through woods, fields, paths and styles.  8 miles?  I pondered and considered it, and then after a bit of "friendly persuasion" from Pat C last week I decided to brave it and I'm so glad I did.  The scenery through/round Temple Newsam) is always gorgeous but Judith had laid on great weather too, so it was extra gorgeous today.  No rain, mild weather, little wind, and even some blue skies and sunshine towards the end - what's not to like?  7.45 miles, 17,363 steps and 858 calories burned - thank you Judith; it  was a good day.

It was lovely to sit in Temple Newsam's coffee shop at the end of our walk and be joined by Denise who as always looked glamorous and definitely not like she'd just walked 7.45 miles!

I remembered to switch my gizzmo on today so for those of you who'd like to know where you've been so you might go again - here's the route ...

It was a lovely walk but obviously too much for some.  Let's hope she's not still there!
