Thursday 25th October - Thornhill

Pat led 24 of us on a great walk around Thornhill today.  With the autumn colours out in full glory the scenery was stunning. I forgot to switch my gizmo on when we set off so I didn't log the route or the distance today but I'm told we walked 6.5/7 miles depending on which gizmo owner I asked.  It's disconcerting how it can differ from one gizmo to another but it gives you an idea at least ... if you remember to switch it on!

Some of the route was very uphill which for some of us was "a walk in the park" but told me I'm definitely out of condition.  Looking on the bright side, after I'd finished panting and got my breath back, the views were spectacular in the bright sunshine and definitely worth it once we got to the tops.

There were some very black clouds overhead at some points but the rain held off.  I was struck by the dark sky but with the sun shining on us in this first photo.

Lunch was a quick stop on a banking, sitting in the sun.  Nobody was asleep really!

Sunday 21st October - Ripon and Studley Royal

Here's a missive from Jayne W about Pauline's walk.
"Pauline’s Sunday walk started in ‘Poppy bedecked’ Ripon which was a sight to behold and stirred the emotions as many public spaces were adorned with hundreds of knitted poppies and information about the local lads lost in the Great War. It was a mainly sunny, autumnal day just perfect for walking to the Studley Royal parkland to visit the deer who should have been enjoying themselves strutting and rutting! However they were obviously not in the mood as everything was quiet so we ate our picnic and walked back to Ripon for some more poppies.  Thank you Pauline for leading."

Janet shared a circular walk with fabulous views around Netherton today - and we were blessed with both sunshine and dry weather.  Here's Janet's walk summary;
"
Starting out from Netherton social club , with bright sunshine and blue skies , 17 of us walked over to Overton and Middlestown via Coxley Woods and Emroyd Common, ending with a cuppa at Ann’s . Thanks for the company"
And here are some of the photos she took too (thank you J!) showing evidence of blue skies, lovely countryside and Anne's hospitality at the end of the walk when she invited us into her garden for coffees and teas.

Thursday 11th October - Mirfield

Pat S led a lovely walk yesterday starting from the Hare & Hounds at Mirfield.  This was a great idea because quite a few of us called in there for a drink afterwards.  It's a lovely place and they're always very welcoming.

Here's a link to the place in case you're interested in visiting (Opens in a new window - I hope you're impresssed!) www.vintageinn.co.uk/restaurants/yorkshire/thehareandhoundsmirfield?gclid=CjwKCAjwjIHeBRAnEiwAhYT2h10ig2sDZv7_csn3fQpyHhUdtRsuNsxjjBZ_cXg5DsNahtrKw3CxfxoCfcUQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Anyway - I digress.  The walk registered 5.46 miles on my gizzmo which might be slightly under what we actually covered because I didn't switch it on right at the start.  I remembered after about 5 minutes in, which explains why there's not a complete loop on the map below.  I've still posted it though because you can still use it if you want to follow the route sometime.

We had a good turnout - a merry bunch of 31  of us!  The walk included quite a few styles, some narrow gates and a few steps.  Some of us were more elegant than others as we navigated theses but as always there were plenty of laughs - together with the usual comments about dieting and cakes!

Sorry - no photographs from me today. but if anyone else took any please forward and I'll get them added to this post.

I've just seen some photographs on Facebook so I've grabbed them from there (with prior permission from Chris S) - so here are a couple ...

Sunday 7th October - Hathersage

Gwenda, assisted by Margaret, led their first walk on a lovely sunny Autumn day.

"A total of 11 ladies turned up - a good number for a Sunday!  The walk took us through the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, through fields, woodland and riverside paths with lovely views throughout. There was only one mishap when we almost lost one lady - a lesson learned for when we lead future walks!"

Unfortunately there are only two photos to share - due to a technical hitch the other photos got lost in a black hole somewhere.  The two survivors are crackers though ... (Better they lost the photos than the lady me' thinks!)

Thursday 4th October - Tong and Fulneck

I don't think there are any photos from Jennifer's walk from Tong last week - but I recorded the route on MapMyWalk - so here it is ...
MapMyWalk recorded 6.7 miles for me but I know some other gismos recorded 7 miles as per the Walks Programme.  Mine told me I'd used 794 calories and since I didn't have a cake at the garden centre afterwards, that's a win for me!
