Thursday 15th April - Hebden Bridge

Again not an official WWWN outing, but Lesley sent some photos and a walk-talk on the walk Anne led ...

"Not even a hot bath and a stiff gin and tonic could dull the pain from my aching thighs!  How could I not remember the never ending steep cobbled path leading back down into Hebdon Bridge from Heptonstall!  Anne skipped gaily ahead whilst Jean and I crawled back to the station!

Anne led a wonderful walk aided by wonderful weather that took us high above Hebdon Bridge across the moors, taking in the wooded valley alongside the river to Gibson Mill where we had lunch, before gradually making our way to Heptonstall where we sought out Sylvia Plaths grave.

The scenery is wonderful and although we had equipped ourselves with hats, scarves and gloves ready for typical moorland weather we gradually disrobed.
The train journey from Dewsbury is so convenient and as my first train  journey for over a year I couldn't believe how chilled we all were.

Thank you Anne for such a super walk."

I thought you might want to know about Sylvia Plath so here's a link to an interesting read, with more information   -  www.poetsgraves.co.uk/plath.htm

Thursday 1st April - Cawthorne and Deffer Wood

Lesley's walk-talk arrived.  Location revealed!

"Yes, I realised that I was setting myself up for tricks and fun today but didn't realise what fun we would all have!
6 of us strolled through Deffer Wood and down into the Country Park, a total of 6 miles for our first walk after lockdown opened.
The 3 days before had been unseasonably warm but today the weather reverted to type and it was hats, gloves and thermals weather. That meant that at best it meant the Country Park was not overcrowded but at worst it meant that our picnic was eaten hastily.
The walk through the Wood was peaceful with the occasional friendly greeting to other walkers with dogs and children.  A kind gentleman offered to take our group photo at the Summer House and we risked sitting side by side but avoided breathing too heavily over each other!
Bluebells were making their presence known in small patches with evidence of the beauty to come.
We ambled through the wood and had the usual fun of negotiating the log hazard before leaving to head out and a cross to the park passing Jowett House Farm dated 1600s.
There were several tricky stiles along the way and comments were made about how long it had been since we had had our legs over so frequently!
Making our way back to the cars we passed the Open Farm (which is not open!) and if it hadn't been too cold to take my phone out I would have had some super shots of the nurseries of black lambs charging about,  they were delightful.
Janet was hesitant about the climb back up to the cars but even though she was exhausted she entertained us with her initiation of how to avoid climbing over a high stile.  It was hilarious.
Thank you to my 5 comrades and looking forward to the next time. "

Not an official WWWN outing, but Lesley went for a walk which she arranged with 5 others.  She emailed photos to me together (below) together with some info about her walk as an unrecognisable attachment.  I've not been able to find any software to open said attachment so I can't tell you more than this!  For now we'll have to let the location of Lesley's walk be a mystery!

Wednesday 31st March - Kirkstall Nature Reserve and Abbey

Olwyn went for a walk with Julie on Wednesday to Kirkstall nature reserve and Abbey and sent these photos in for the blog. With the blue skies and sunshine you could be forgiven for thinking it's summer!  Who knew Olwyn is such a good photographer!  I like the last one best.
