hardwick hall & ault hucknall

Pauline got us up at the crack of dawn for this walk........we don't know why because when we got to Hardwick Hall the Duchess of Cavendish was still in bed!  However the car park was open - so she had done her homework - and we set off for a lovely walk around the mainly flat but lovely lush countryside.. It didn't seem like 10 miles as we were entertained by snippets of history and local facts along the way.  Did you know that St John the Baptist Church at Ault Hucknall is mentioned in the Domesday Book and that the carvings around the doorway are Saxon .....and mean something ...I've forgotten what....but they do. Anyway I enjoyed it all and the ice cream back in the car park at the end .......even if it was still AM.  Only joking Pauline!! Thank you very much.
