Sun 5th Mar - Some of Leeds Country Way, circular walk.

5 Walking Women set off along part of the Leeds Country Way. Christine "of Thorpe" only joined us for the first 3/4hour as she was puppy sitting and didn't want to leave it alone for too long.
Always a good leader I gave the ladies a choice, did they want to walk all the way to the start of the blocked tunnel on a on disused railway, with lots of steps at the end to climb up to reach the height of the top of the tunnel, or the gentle slope to the top of the tunnel.
The steps were chosen so the railway enthusiast's among us could look at the tunnel and ask way too may questions, that I didn't know the answer to.

We then walked past Howley Manor now a ruin. Further on the walk we could hear lots of shooting and found ourselves walking straight through a Sunday morning clap pigeon shoot. They had quite a few of clay chucking machines on both sides of the main path and there were lots of gun men. All very polite as we walked past them, reminding us to stay on the main path, which made us walk an extra corner, but seemed the safest way to proceed.
When we got above the wood, we walked for a while along the M62, which was more noise for us to shout over as we tried to carry on our conversations. Slight detour through the Howley Golf course as I missed the path, much to the amusement of some lady golfers. The hit the railway tunnel and retraced our steps back to the car.     -     Chris
