A poor start today; traffic light malfunction on the Stanley ferry bridge over the canal, which led to traffic queues. A poor finish too – the pub was closed for maintenance until 3pm (walk finished 2.15!) Undeterred we started 15 minutes late and some of us went for a coffee at Carr Gate garden centre.
The bit in the middle was well attended by 27 ladies who managed the few icy stretches with just one, very graceful, fall. The sun shone and the sky was blue. The company was good as ever. A picnic in the sun and a good day out.
I was bought to task over my description of ‘three challenging stiles’ as there were 6 stiles! In my defence, I though 3 were ‘easy’ .... and its a good job I am not treasurer!
I would like to thank Janet for putting on a ‘shorter’ walk and was a little disappointed that there were no takers as such – though 3 ladies did take the slight short cut nearer the end. This meant Janet walked further and faster than she would have preferred, so thank you Janet. Caroline
