Wednesday 15th April - Condolences - Pat Clay

15/4/2020

This post brings some sad news of one of our oldest and beloved members,  Pat Clay died early on Saturday morning, peacefully, in her care home.  Her death is not reported as caused by COVID 19.

Pat led a lot of walks for our group over many years.  She also did the three peaks with a small group of us some years ago.

We understand there will be a quiet funeral, and a service of thanksgiving at a later stage.

If you would like to leave your own message of condolence, please post it here on the blog for all to see.

Thank you

RIP Pat

It's sad news to hear of Pat's passing. Our paths in the WWWN crossed only briefly before she stopped walking but I remember her as a friendly and warm lady. RIP Pat.

Pat was one of the ladies I met on my very first walk 10 years ago. It was an extremely hot walk in the Wolds so only a few of us. She immediately came across as a lovely calm, quiet lady and when I discovered that she had been a Primary School teacher I immediately thought how she must have been loved by the children.
She liked to describe her family and her early life and we sometimes walked past her previous homes. She was the gentlest of ladies and I was proud to know her.

Remembering Pat with great fondness. She was the first person I talked to when I joined over 11 years ago. We had a lot in common, both being retired primary school teachers. She was very kind and thoughtful. I remember she recommended Puerto de la Cruz, in the north of Tenerife. We have been going every year since. I always think of Pat when we are visiting her 'special' places there.

Pat was one of those ladies it was a pleasure to meet. A ge tle soul who had ma h interesting tales to tell. A really kind person who always had good words to say about people. I never heard her say anything unkind. She was a lovely lady and I am sure will be greatly missed by all her family of whom she was very proud.
May she now rest in peace.
With much love
Ivy

Have had a little FB messenger chat with Harry - Pat's husband. He said "Pat was pleased to be part of the wonderful group which she thoroughly enjoyed. She died as she lived quietly and peacefully and in confident faith in her Lord and Saviour Jesus.

Which is how I am sure we will always think of Pat, As well as her ability to keep on walking, out pacing most of us, be it with brolly or walking stick. With one or 2 bum bags for all her needs depending on the length of the walk.

My fondest memory was when we did Snowden on that "fateful" day. Just towards the end of the walk ( I was back marker !!!) she said she was feeling a bit tired and proved it by jumping from rock to rock down the mountain. RIP Pat.

Pat was such a gentle soul; we were all so fond of her. At the same time she was an role model, she had amazing stamina. She could do strenuous walks and still look fresh at the end. I have fond memories of us all clinging on to her on a very windy day on Roseberry topping, when we thought she might be blown away. She thought we were fussing!!!

I first met Pat when I was 16. I had to take my little brother to school in Gawthorpe. She was loved by all the kids and was a fabulous Teacher to many. I then had the pleasure of walking with her when I joined the walking group many years later and she remembered me. Pat was a truly inspirational Lady and will be missed by many xx

I have such lovely memories of walking with Pat. And what a good walker she was! She was always prepared with her brolly and her bum bag. We shared lots of interesting chats and she was always smiling. Such a kind and gentle lady. So lucky to have shared such special times together. xx

I enjoyed getting lost with Pat so many times and it was a standing joke that if she led a walk that she said was 7 miles, I always assumed 10 miles minimum. A wonderful lady x

Sorry about Pat. I think she was our oldest member. I particularly remember our holiday in Moux, France. We stayed in a big house belonging to friends of my daughter's . We all enjoyed it. Pat enjoyed the walks and mixing with everyone, We walked through the woods, along the coast, visited old villages and climbed a high mountain. She was a strong walker and a good leader.

We shall miss you Pat, rest in peace.

My first walk with the group was on a Thursday and was led by Pat. We parked and started from Pugneys. A total of 8 ladies, how she must have seen her entourage grow in numbers over the years.
When I was walks secretary I could always rely on Pat phoning me with a couple of dates!
A quiet, unassuming lady passed our way. RIP Pat.
Sincere condolences to Harry and family.

Sad to hear of Pats passing. I have happy memories of Ilkley through Pat, she regularly did the cow & calf walk with a train ride to get there. She was a lovely person with a lovely smile.
